Desire In His Blood by Zoey Draven

They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but with this one you absolutely can. I mean, this book is exactly the kind of book you think it is based on that jacked vampire-bat-demon hybrid with a six pack and expert blowout right there. Considering this was my first foray into what some would regard as fantasy smut, this review is for fellow first-timers, those erotically curious yet hesitant ones who feel trepidation at the thought of big strong alien men making you feel...things. Let me give you a rundown (without any spoilers you haven't already deduced):

We've got a capable and intelligent woman of 30 (hooray adult women!) who is basically the only person keeping her family's shit together, but even so they are woefully in debt when a marriage broker informs her that an alien from a particularly cruel species will marry her for gobs of money and for some reason he is very particular that it has to be her. So, to protect her two younger sisters from a fate worse than death, she agrees and we're off. She marries this hulking winged dude, is taken back to his castle where he makes it clear that he doesn't like her and that's fine because she also makes it clear that she doesn't like him but also they're both kinda hot and I bet you can't tell what happens.

Of course you know what happens, but also you won't know everything and I gotta give it to Zoey because there's a lot of work and detail here that I can respect. Was my mind blown? No. Were there moments where I was like "um...okay...?" Yes, there was. Did I enjoy it though? Yes. Yes I did. Was I expecting to share an attraction to a hulking, gray skinned, winged, fanged, horned kind of prince guy? I was not. Color me surprised.

I guess I'll just leave it with this: If you find Henry Cavill as Superman to be the height of sexual attractiveness, then maybe skip this book. However. If placing Henry Cavill in a long gray wig, yellow contacts and giving him a personality that can only be described as grumpy-as-hell does things to you...then you might like this.
