Sweetling by S. E. Wendel
Something S.E. Wendel does VERY well is create these characters that are at once adorably squishy and absolutely filthy. The world and magic and character development are handle with such explicit care (and I do mean explicit in the biblical sense). It’s nice when you read a book and find yourself giggling for several different reasons and this is that. Cozy, lovely, safe.
A synopsis, without spoilers:
Our MMC is a fae who hears our FMC laugh and is like “that’s the gal for me, big time.” Like, he will die for that woman. Our FMC doesn’t actually have that much to laugh about, and when she does it’s usually to procure a tip from one of the patrons in her uncle’s bar while simultaneously dodging their grabby hands. He buys her from the gross uncle because he doesn’t know how human courtship works and she goes along with it because she does know how no-fault divorce and community property works (or whatever the book world equivalent is here). But the more she spends time with this hot fae, the harder it becomes to leave. Because no, he’s like really hot and really, really into her. And piercing.
The house is sentient, the unicorn is so mouthy, and this is one of the best series that I have read.
