Claimed by the Horde King by Zoey Draven
I can’t believe I’m back in this series considering how much I truly detest camping. And it may have been better if I had stayed away because this book, very unfortunately, hit on one of the things in romantasy (or sci-fi romance, whatever you wanna call it) that I truly cannot abide, and that is a romantically indecisive MMC. I will put up with a lot of wavering and indecision in every other area of the story, but the one thing I do need is for the MMC to be so completely and totally all in on the FMC from the beginning and I think the reason for that is we all know how this is gonna go. That is quite literally why, for most of us, we read these books; it is the comfort of knowing that these two will be together and when you already know the end result of something the way you make it interesting is by putting obstacles in the way of that end result and then showing how these characters grow by overcoming them, ultimately becoming better for themselves and for each other. When the primary obstacle of the two main characters coming together is one of those characters just being like “oh, I don’t know if like everyone’s gonna like that I like her…” NO. That’s not, that’s not the energy I’m looking for here. Especially not when you are dragging her ass out to your little tent village to live off the grid! “Oh no, but my horde may not respect my leadership anymore if I take a human wife,” - bitch, your horde is a bunch of tents and some ugly ass horse/lizard hybrids you ride instead of using space-age technology which definitely exists in this imaginary world! Like what? I swear to god if I read one more of these books and the MMC is wishy-washy about his feelings for the perfect 10 that he’s managed to drag from her human village I am going to throw my Kindle so hard against the wall it will shatter apart, just like my suspension of disbelief when these glorified granola bitches act like they have the audacity to not be 100% in for these women. Like, she’s gonna have to have your babies in a tent be so fucking for real right now.
As an aside, and I realize this series is all but completed at this point, but I would really love to see some birth control introduced into the lore of these Hordes. They really need it.
