The Scot Beds His Wife by Kerrigan Byrne

One of the things I really like about this series is how all the previous couples keep showing up in subsequent books; it doesn’t happen as much in this one, but it’s just so delightful when it does happen because these women run these men like it’s their business. These big beefy Scots don’t stand a chance. They’re all grumpy and act as though they’re put out by any level of socializing and yet one word, one look from their wives, and they morph into absolute teddy bears.

A quick rundown without spoilers: our FMC is an American cowgirl who’s as quick with her whit as she is with a pistol, which she’s forced to use during a train heist gone wrong. For Reasons, she has to fly to Scotland where naturally she meets our MMC, this big beefy Scot who is kind of famous for being good at sex (I…can’t make this up), but for Reasons will never marry, and so of course for other Reasons they kind of have to get married, even though of course they don’t like each other and she’s got this secret that, once it is revealed, could ruin everything!

For me, this series is the perfect blend of comfortably predictable plot, melodrama, spice and actually competent, skilled writing. Like, don’t get me wrong; it’s the same plot every time, and yet I keep coming back for more. Because it’s not the same every time. Even though it is.
