Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood
The author note at the beginning of this one had me scared it was gonna be heavy and dark and depressing, and even though it did tackle some more serious subjects than the single previous book that I’ve read of hers, it was just as sweet and lovely and giggly as I now have come to expect.
Synopsis without spoilers:
She is an emotionally unavailable scientist working at her friend’s company, he is an emotionally unavailable business professional working at his friend’s company, they meet on a hookup app for emotionally unavailable people who want to bone. What should be a night of hit-it-and-quit-it gets complicated because, although there is plenty of hitting it (like, a good plenty), and even though he’s after her friend’s company, and even though they are both definitely, assuredly, unequivocally not in love, the quitting it just will not stick.
If this is your first foray into romance (smut) novels, this might be a lot in terms of sheer frequency of the spice. But I will say that these two people have very good sexual communication throughout, are very attentive to each other’s physical needs and preferences, and enthusiastic in their consent. So, all things considered, maybe this is a good one to start with.
