The Horde King of Shadows by Zoey Draven
I’m not saying Zoey Draven read every critique I have ever made about her previous Horde King series and then watched How to Train Your Dragon before writing this book specifically to make me happy, but I’m not NOT saying that.
Synopsis without spoilers:
200 years after the previous Horde King series, we finally have indoor plumbing and adequate birth control in Dakar (just getting the most important stuff out of the way first). Our MMC is a dragon-riding, emotionally distant, hulking piece of Horde King man meat while our FMC is a rejected princess, a scholar, a woman with a secret and powerful gift. Forced into a marriage neither of them chose, they have to figure out how to fix a big magic-related problem while trying to make a union between two objectively hot, virile people work when literally nothing but their own lack of communication and preconceived notions stands in their way.
This book was a breath of fresh fucking air and I loved it.
