The Highlander by Kerrigan Byrne

Okay, hear me out: this is probably the best one in the series so far. Yes, we still have this Highland male who is dangerous and doesn’t think he’s deserving of love yada yada yada but let me tell you the elements that make this one better. FMC is not a virgin, she is in her 30s, she is not a skinny mini. MMC wears a kilt (always a bonus), does not feel needlessly conflicted about his feelings for FMC and only ever engages with her when enthusiastic consent is given. In terms of things to cringe over there was considerably less of it in this one. Now, in the audiobook does the very British narrator try on an Indian accent and does that give me a bit of the ick? yes, indeed it does. However, that character is not just a stereotype and gets an arc of his own and in that way is leaps and bounds better than the only non-white characters in the previous book. Though I have to admit, that’s not saying a great deal.
